This comes after a finding made by the Commission against the Principal and staff at Dr Viljoen Combined School in a racism case.

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) wishes to express its concern at the arrest of peaceful protestors staging a sit-in at the Free State Health Department’s Head Office. We have been advised that most of the protestors are women health care workers expressing dissatisfaction with the state of health care in the province and the alleged dismissal of about 3000 community health workers.

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) is deeply concerned about the water contamination crisis and its resultant deaths in the Bloemhof region located in the North West Province. A water crisis has hit the communities of Bloemhof in the last week of May with allegations of a cholera outbreak and patients afflicted with diarrhoea.
