Terms of Reference: Investigation into alleged racial discrimination or discrimination in advertising
In the recent past, there have been a few advertisements which have been indicative of racism and have evoked much criticism of the industry and their clients. Instead of having to react to each discriminatory advert as and when they occur, with the learnings and information gathered during the investigation, the SAHRC aims to craft medium to long term interventions that will instill, in the advertising sector, a culture of human rights and produce mechanisms that promote equality and prevent unfair discrimination.  And, in doing so, prevent the publication of discriminatory (racist, sexist, tribalist, homophobic, anti-Semitic, Islamophobic or ableist) advertisements.

The Commission has deemed it appropriate and in the public interest to conduct its investigation through a formal inquiry, in accordance with sections 13 and 15 of the South African Human Rights Commission Act 40 of 2013 (‘the SAHRC Act’) and Chapter 4 of the Commission’s Complaints Handling Procedures (‘the Procedures Manual’.)

Assessing and determining the sufficiency of the SAHRC annual budget allocation

TOR-RFQ - National Schools Moot Court Competition Data Support
The SAHRC intends to source quotation(s) from a suitable service provider to facilitate the purchase and distribution of data to 36 schools that will be participating in the virtual national round of the NSMCC. The partners decided on a virtual format due to health and safety concerns caused by the ongoing covid-19 pandemic. The data will enable the team of 2 learners and 1 educator per school to conduct research, connect to the designated virtual platform and participate effectively in the competition.

Technical Support to 2021 Virtual National Schools Moot Court Competition
The SAHRC requests quotations from suitable service providers to host and provide technical support for the 2021 virtual national NSMCC. The preferred service provider must provide 2 separate quotations to enable the SAHRC to select the most appropriate quotation for its needs for:
a) two full days, one being the opening session on the 6th and the other being the final session on the 10th of October only; and
b) the other of five full days covering 6th -10th October inclusive.
A detailed program will be shared with the successful service provider.

SAHRC Call for Nominations: Independent Monitoring Mechanism Disability Advisory Committee
The South African Human Rights Commission SAHRC or Commission has opened its public nomination process for its Disability Advisory Committee (DAC) on the Independent Monitoring Mechanism under Article 33 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
People and organisations alike are encouraged to nominate members who can be considered to sit on the committee, either as a representative of a Disabled People Organisation (DPO) or as experts.

Attached here are the call for nominations that describes the DAC, the role of the Committee, and the requirements for members and the nomination form.  The nomination process will conclude on the 30th September 2021. Details of submission are contained in the nomination form.
