The South African Human Rights Commission (“the Commission”) Gauteng Provincial Office (GPO) in line with its mandate will visit Johannesburg Correctional Centre – Sun City on 14 December 2022.

Section 184(1)(c) of the Constitution obliges the Commission to monitor and assess the observance of human rights, including the protection of persons in places of deprivation of liberty in the Republic.

The South African Human Rights Commission’s (“the Commission”) Eastern Cape Provincial Office (ECPO) will be embarking on various monitoring activities in the Joe Gqabi District Municipality, Chris Hani District Municipality and Sarah Baartman District Municipality. Section 184 (1) (c) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa states that, the Commission must monitor and assess the observance of human rights in the Republic.  The role of monitoring and assessing human rights and potential human rights violations, provides for an opportunity for the Commission to ensure redress and to ensure that human rights are upheld in the Republic.

International Human Rights Day celebrates the rights and freedom of all persons and encourages the respect and observance of rights for all nations and those outside the borders of the country.

The 10^th of December marks the commemoration of International Human Rights Day (IHRD). The day is globally observed annually in remembrance of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by United Nations General Assembly on the 10^th of December 1948. This proclamation was the first global expression of human rights and is globally recognised as one of the first major achievements of the UN.

A Gauteng woman who unleashed a vicious racial attack on social media will now face the music for her actions.

Belinda Magor has been arrested and charged with crimen injuria, after a voice note did the rounds of her calling for black men to be killed and "banned" instead of pitbulls.

A Benoni woman who went on a racial rant describing black men as being worse than pit bulls, saying they should be killed, is facing a probe by the South African Human Rights Commission.

The voice recording was posted on the Facebook page of the Sizwe Kupelo Foundation, which is campaigning for the breed of dogs to be banned and came on the same day as the death of a child who mauled by the breed in East London.
