Today, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC or Commission) commemorates International Older Persons Day. On 14th December 1990, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly (through resolution 45/106) designated 1 October the International Day of Older Persons. The theme of the 2018 commemoration is “Celebrating Older Human Rights Champions“.

The Department of Water Affairs & Sanitation has set aside R20 Million to restore the Vaal Rivers water treatment plants.

A senior government official has poured cold water on accusations against Water and Sanitation Minister Gugile Nkwinti over the Vaal River contaminated water crisis.
The department’s deputy director-general, Anil Singh, last week appeared before the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC). Singh shifted the blame from Nkwinti to the Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) ministry.
