North West children’s safety under question

Shock revelation in Mabelane death

AFTER Matthews Mabelane plunged to his death from the 10th floor of the then John Vorster Square 40 years ago, his family received a message with his clothes. On the inside of the white lining of his green, bloodied pants, it was written: "Brother Lasch, inform mom and other brothers that the police are going to push me from the 10th floor and I am bidding you goodbye forever." Four decades later , the family cannot accept that he jumped from the window of the 10th floor of the notorious police station.

Parents of learners at Klipspruit West Secondary School demanded to invigilate their children’s examinations and also “beat up black teachers” if their children failed‚ the South African Human Rights Commission heard on Friday.

Bringing in security personnel to protect learners who alleged they had been racially insulted by a handful of teachers at the Klipspruit West High School was not ideal but it was productive‚ said Gauteng MEC Panyaza Lesufi.
