MEDIA INVITE: SAHRC Mpumalanga Provincial Office commemorates International Day for the Elderly

The South African Human Rights Commission’s Mpumalanga Provincial Office will be commemorating International Day for the Elderly at Mashishing, Thaba Chweu Local Municipality. The commemoration is hosted under the theme: “Stepping into the Future: Tapping the Talents, Contributions and Participations of Older Persons in Society.”

The purpose of the commemoration is to promote the rights of the elderly and to enable and expand their contribution in their families, communities and society at large. This engagement is aimed at recognising the talents and wisdom of older persons that can equip young people for a better life and to explore measures needed to address challenges faced by older persons in the province.

The Commission embarks on this campaign to fully acknowledge the important role of older persons in society as well as addressing their needs for basic human rights.

The commemoration is scheduled to take place as follows:
Place: Mashishing, Lydenburg
Venue: Thaba Chweu Municipality Council Chamber
Date: 19 October 2017
Time: 10h00 – 14h00
