Following the release of its KwaZulu Natal Water Inquiry Report in September 2023, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC/ the Commission) is visiting District Municipalities on a programme to monitor progress on the implementation of its recommendations and to assess the state of human rights in the region.

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC / the Commission) will be convening a national investigative inquiry on the impact of load reduction on human rights. The national investigative inquiry comes at the back of growing concerns and complaints from some quarters that whilst South Africa is experiencing a reprieve from loadshedding, load reduction appears to be on the rise. Concerns have also been raised about the impact of load reduction on human rights, particularly its impact on vulnerable members of society.

The South African Human Rights Commission’s (SAHRC/ the Commission) Limpopo Provincial Office has in the past years received many complaints from farming communities related to violations of human rights. Recently, two black women were allegedly shot and fed to pigs by a white farmer and two of his workers at a farm outside Polokwane, in Limpopo. The SAHRC is concerned with the impact of farming incidents on and around farming communities on social harmony and nation-building and as a result will host an Indaba towards social harmony, safety, and nation-building on and around farms in Limpopo Province.
