The South African Human Rights Commission (“the Commission”) received complaints alleging that residents of Kimberley has been experiencing water shortages for the past three (3) days. The Commission is concerned about the impact the water shortages have on the residents and more specifically on older persons, persons with disabilities, health facilities and women and children.

The SAHRC Limpopo Provincial Office will conduct a fact finding visit as part of its monitoring mandate at Mbilwi Secondary School in the Vhembe District Municipality, after it was reported that a learner from said school has met her untimely death post the bullying acts by a fellow learner. The visit will take place today, the 14th of April 2021.

This week, Judge Siraj Desai made a costs order against the City of Cape Town in its case against the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) and 10 monitors. The commission and monitors feel that justice has prevailed. The city, meanwhile, has responded that it is considering its options.
