Cape Town – Western Cape health-care facilities are not coping with population demands while a lack of infrastructure is impeding access to health care, according to SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) chairperson Bongani Majola.

Durban – The South African Medical Association (Sama) has thrown its weight behind nurses who have filed a complaint with the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) following the murder and rape of staff at state hospitals.
Sama’s national vice-chairperson, Dr Mvuyisi Mzukwa, said  that state medical facilities were “in crisis” as they did not have sufficient security to protect patients and doctors, who were seen as soft targets.

Authorities appear to have turned a blind eye on an illegal rehabilitation centre where addicts are allegedly beaten and chained up in a "torture church".
This week, 70 drug addicts were rescued during a raid nearly a decade after the horror conditions of the place were first exposed.
The illegal rehab centre called No-Smoking is located inside Church of Christ premises in Moletjie outside Polokwane, Limpopo.

The SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) said on Wednesday it had decided to provide legal assistance to Thabiso Zulu, whistle-blower and close friend of slain ANC Youth League leader Sindiso Magaqa.
Zulu, who testified at the Moerane Commission into political killings in the ANC in 2018, narrowly escaped a gun attack in Pietermaritzburg after being shot and wounded in October 2019.

Cape Town – Aggrieved parents of Milnerton Primary school pupils have turned to the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) in the hope that the school will change its policy banning children from aftercare if their parents pick them up late on three or more occasions.
Earlier this month, the Cape Times reported that Nathi Fokazi called the school out for what he said was its unfair aftercare policy, which saw his 10-year-old daughter banned from the school’s aftercare for life after he fetched her late six times in a year.
