July unrest report to be released in July - SAHRC

The commission's Andre Gaum says the report was delayed due to report writers who left the SAHRC during the finalisation of the report.

Gaum was responding to questions in Parliament’s Justice and Correctional Services Committee on Wednesday.
"Unfortunately, we had a myriad of challenges including report writes, one of the unfortunately also left the commission recently, but the panel has intervened and made sure that we have dedicated writers, we have two of them at the moment.
"We have a timeline in this regard, and I can report that the submission of the provisional unrest report to external stakeholders will take place on 29 May and then we will provide the stakeholder's respondents 30 days."
"According to our timeline that we are monitoring we are planning to launch of the final unrest report will happen on 24 July."
The much anticipated report is expected to shed light on human rights violations during the unrest and people responsible for anarchy.
The looting, violence, and destruction of property in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng left over 400 people dead.
