This report sets out the findings and recommendations of the Commission arising from its investigation into the state of police stations and correctional centres in the North West Province. The investigation was undertaken pursuant to the Commission’s constitutional and statutory mandate to monitor, investigate and report on the observance of human rights, and to take steps to secure appropriate redress where rights violations are established.
The report follows extensive monitoring activities conducted between 2023 and 2025, stakeholder engagements with the relevant state institutions and a subpoena hearing convened in terms of section 15 of the South African Human Rights Commission Act 40 of 2013.
