Media Advisory: The SAHRC to host a two-day National Conference on Humane Border Migration

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC/the Commission) will on, 04-05 March 2026, host a two-day National Conference on Human-Border, and responsible Migration. This conference is convened in terms of the Commission’s mandate to protect and promote human rights in the country.

The Commission, in line with its mandate to promote and protect human rights has monitored and received number of complaints on migration and its impact on human rights. Challenges such as open borders, crime, high unemployment rate, access to health care services, and access to education have dominated the public discourse for some time.  

As such, this conference aims to provide a platform for the Commission and stakeholders to engage deeply into these multidimensional challenges affecting the country. In addition, the conference will explore the root causes of migration and be solution-oriented on push and pull factors, to strengthen coordinated responses at national, regional, and international levels. Various stakeholders, including diplomatic missions, government, civil society, business, and international organisations, will participate in the conference.
