Media Advisory: The SAHRC Northern Cape Provincial Office to host stakeholder engagements with the Northern Cape Provincial Government Executive Council and on Environmental Rights and Climate Justice

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC/ the Commission) in the Northern Cape Province will be hosting two high-level stakeholder engagements as part of its strategic efforts to strengthen partnerships, promote constitutional values, and advance the realisation of human rights in the province.

The first engagement will bring together the Northern Cape Provincial Government Executive Council, including the Premier, Members of the Executive Council (EXCO), Heads of Departments, SALGA representatives, Mayors, and Municipal Managers. The purpose of this engagement is to deliberate on key human rights priorities in the province, including socioeconomic rights, access to basic services, environmental rights, and governance challenges.

The second engagement will focus on Human Rights, Environmental Rights and Climate Justice, and will include participation from government departments, civil society organisations, academia, and environmental experts. The aim is to examine the intersection of environmental degradation and climate change with constitutionally protected rights, especially the lived experiences of communities in the Northern Cape.
