His journey was marked by immense courage; Dr. Farisani was arrested and subjected to torture by the apartheid government, enduring months of hospitalisation as a result. His unwavering fight for justice was fuelled by the belief that Black South Africans deserved equal rights and freedom, simply as a matter of humanity.
The Commission honoured, appreciated and appreciated the transformative work he accomplished in uplifting South African communities. Through his efforts, he provided access to justice, dignity, and freedom, truly embodying the spirit of the South African Constitution. His lifelong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all individuals resonates with the Constitution's aspirations to heal the wounds of the past and build a society grounded in democratic values, social justice, and fundamental human rights.
Even after stepping away from the political arena, where he served as a Member of Parliament, MEC, and Speaker of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature, Dr. Farisani never wavered in his dedication to activism. He collaborated with the Commission’s Limpopo Provincial Office to educate the public about human rights and always supported the Provincial Office’s various initiatives. His willingness to share his own painful experiences, alongside Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela and Tshifhiwa Muofhe, serves as a powerful reminder of resilience, inspiring others to engage in active citizenship and stand up for justice.
