Media Advisory: The SAHRC’s Free State Provincial Office to brief the Free State Legislature on its Inquiry Report into the State of Service Delivery at Local Government Level in the Province

Attention: Editors and Reporters
Wednesday, 21 May 2025

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) through its Free State Provincial Office (FSPO) will brief the Free State Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Office of the Premier, on the contents of the inquiry report into the state of service delivery at local government level in the Free State Province.

The SAHRC released the inquiry report on 19 November 2024, finding serious service delivery failures within local municipalities in the Free State Province. The SAHRC welcomes the opportunity to brief the Free State Legislature which plays a critical oversight role over government in the attainment and realisation of human rights in the Free State Province.

The SAHRC is optimistic that the briefing will lead to the establishment of accountability mechanisms to ensure that the recommendations made by the SAHRC in its inquiry report are implemented by all stakeholders.

The briefing will take place as follows:

  • Date: Thursday, 22 May 2025
  • Time: 10h00
  • Venue: Microsoft Teams
