As part of its ongoing efforts to raise awareness and address human rights challenges, the ECPO will conduct a series of information-sharing sessions. These sessions will serve as platforms for engagement between communities and various stakeholders who support constitutional democracy and deliver essential services. A dedicated complaint-handling helpdesk will also be available to assist the public.
The Commission has noted that many communities face difficulties in accessing and engaging with duty-bearers on issues affecting their daily lives. Common concerns include compromised access and quality of socio-economic rights, civil and political rights, and cultural rights. The focus on these areas aligns with the Commission’s constitutional mandate to promote, respect, protect, and monitor the realisation of human rights.
The engagements will be held as follows:
- Date: Wednesday, 9 April 2025
- Time: 10H00 – 13H00
- Venue: Golf Course Community Hall, KwaMaqoma
-
Date: Thursday, 10 April 2025 - Time: 10H00 – 13H00
- Venue: Msobomvu Community Hall, Bedford (Nyarha)
Date: Friday, 11 March 2024- Time: 10H00 – 13H00
- Venue: Madiba Community Hall, Cookhouse
The engagements will bring together participants from various sectors, including Chapter 9 and 10 Institutions, as well as district, provincial, government departments. Invited speakers will share insights on their respective mandates and how their work contributes to the promotion and protection of human rights. A dedicated opportunity will be provided for these speakers to engage directly with community members by responding to questions and concerns raised during the session. The Commission emphasises the critical importance of safeguarding the rights of communities and remains committed to ensuring that these rights are respected, promoted, and protected at all levels of government and society
