Media Release: The SAHRC North West Provincial Office to conduct human rights dialogue to probe alleged practice of “blacklisting” of former employees by mining houses in the North West

Date: 07 February 2023

Attention: Editors and Reporters

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) North West provincial office received several complaints from persons alleging that they have been “blacklisted” by their former employers from securing employment in the mining sector.
The SAHRC will therefore conduct a human rights dialogue on the alleged practice of “blacklisting” in the North West Province.
The aim of the dialogue is to provide stakeholders with an opportunity to clarify how the “blacklisting” practice works, the rationale behind the practice, the parties involved throughout the value chain and the redress mechanisms available to persons affected by this practice.

The dialogue will also provide an opportunity for affected persons to share insights on how the practice has affected them and their families. The ultimate aim of the dialogue is to secure redress for the affected persons, to the extent that a human rights violation is established.

The dialogue is planned to take place as follows:
Date: 09 February 2023
Time: 09:00 AM
Venue: Orion Safari Lodge (Rustenburg)

Ends
