Media Invite: SAHRC Mpumalanga Office hosts dialogues on mental health

Attention: Editors and Reporters

23 January 2023

SAHRC Mpumalanga provincial office will be conducting human rights dialogues for community based organisations as strategic stakeholders on Mental Health – Promoting and Protecting Human Rights.

People with mental health conditions are exposed to a wide range of human rights violations. The stigma and discrimination they face means they are often shunned from society and fail to receive the care they require or the services and support they need to lead full lives in the community. In some communities, people with mental health conditions are banished to the edge of town where they are left semi-naked or in rags, tied up, beaten and left to go hungry.

The SAHRC in Mpumalanga will be conducting dialogues which are aimed at equipping stakeholders with information that will enable them to sensitize their communities about available government interventions and programmes aimed at addressing and curbing challenges faced by recipients of healthcare services in the province.

The dialogues are envisaged to be held as follows:

24 January 2023

Far East Lodge

10h00 – 14h00

26 January 2023

Middelburg Country Club

10h00 – 14h00
