Media Advisory: SAHRC North West Provincial office to conduct a Capacity Building Workshop and Stakeholder Engagement in Taung

Attention: Editors and Reporters

13 September 2022

On 13 – 16 September 2022, the North West Provincial Office of the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) will conduct capacity building workshops aimed at capacitating faith based organisations and conduct stakeholder engagements with older persons, government employees, non-governmental organisations and community development workers.

The SAHRC notes with concern that, despite the dawn of freedom and democracy, and notwithstanding the gains achieved thus far, considerable challenges remain in respect of the advancement of the Bill of Rights, particularly in rural areas.

The empowerment sessions will comprise of training on the human rights jurisprudence and the three-fold mandate of the Commission. It is envisaged that the community human rights champions will carry out work to further the mandate of the Commission after the workshop.

The capacity building workshop and stakeholder engagements are scheduled to take place as follows:

Venue: Staywell Lodge – Taung

Date:  13 - 16 September 2022

Date: 10h00 to 14h00
