Media Invite: SAHRC Mpumalanga Office to hosts workshops on Children’s Rights

Attention: Editors and Reporters
29 August 2022

The Mpumalanga Provincial Office (MPO) will host workshops on children’s rights following rising numbers of learner pregnancy amid Covid-19 as well as enquiries relating to allegations of sexual violations of learners by educators within the province.

The MPO has received few enquiries relating to sexual violations of learners by educators within the province. The office is of the view that this matter warrants a discussion and empowerment of the education population in respect of the children’s rights as enshrined in the Constitution. It is for this reason that we seek for indulgence in conversing, together with other interested and affected parties in our society.

The MPO will therefore be conducting workshops which are aimed at empowering principals, school management teams (SMTs) as well as members of schools governing bodies (SGBs) on the Legislative and Policy Reform on the Child Sex Offenders and the Children’s Protection Registers.

The workshops are envisaged to be held as follows:

DATES    VENUES    TIME
26 August 2022    Lowveld High School    09h00 – 13h30
30 August 2022    Sikhulile Circuit Office    09h00 – 13h30

Ends
