Media Advisory: The South African Human Rights Commission to Host a Virtual Stakeholder Engagement on Mob Justice in Zandspruit

23 June 2021

Attention: Editors and Reporters

The South African Human Rights Commission, Gauteng Provincial Office will be hosting a virtual Stakeholder Engagement on Mob Justice. The Commission has noted the increasing number of reports detailing the prevalence of mob justice in Gauteng, specifically in the Zandspruit area. Mob justice violates the rights and freedoms enshrined in the South African Constitution, as well as the United Nations Standards of Human Rights.

The Commission has invited various stakeholders who will be able to highlight the dangers that mob justice brings to the attainment, protection, promotion and development of human rights and discuss the ways in which the practice of mob justice can be curbed in communities.

The Stakeholder Engagement will take place as follows:
Date: 24 June 2021
