Media Alert: SAHRC Mpumalanga Provincial Office to conduct a workshop on the rights of undocumented children

Attention: Editors and Reporters

14 December 2020

Over the years, the SAHRC Mpumalanga Provincial Office has received numerous complaints regarding undocumented children, who have been denied access to schools due to lack of documentation. The Commission considers this continuing conduct from some schools as a gross violation of the rights of children enshrined in the Constitution.

The aim of the workshop is to equip community focal points and structures with information so that they can advocate the culture and respect of the rights of migrant, stateless and South African undocumented children to broader communities. It is also meant to obtain more details regarding the causes, as well as the scale and extent of the challenges affecting undocumented children.

The workshop is scheduled to take place as follows:

Date:            16 December 2020

Venue:         Chweni Alliance Church, Chweni Trust

Time:           10:00
