Media Advisory: SAHRC KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Free State Offices will jointly conduct an inter-provincial cross boarder roadshow in the three provinces

Attention: Editors and Reporters

01 December 2020

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Free State Provincial Offices will jointly host/ conduct an inter-provincial cross boarder roadshow in the three provinces from the 30 November – 5 December 2020.

The aim of the cross boarder roadshow is to commemorate 25 years of the Commission; to raise awareness on the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign (16 Days Campaign); to service the areas that are adjacent or border the three provinces; and seeks to increase visibility of the Commission and ensure easy access to the Commissions services.

The roadshow is designed to raise awareness on the role and mandate of the Commission and to increase the prospects of individual and community driven rights assertion; to inform communities about their rights and responsibilities (children, general public, health care users, detained persons etc.); and to monitor the observance and adherence to human rights in the different facilities (detention facilities, children’s home etc.). The roadshow will further provide a platform for communities to engage directly with the Commission on matters that affect them, and to lodge complaints of human rights violations.
