The South African Human Rights Commission (the Commission) in partnership with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) will be hosting an ‘Elections Town Hall Debate’ to commemorate Human Rights Month 2019.

This Town Hall Debate will provide a platform for political parties to reflect on their election manifestos and engage with the public. Each party manifesto will be critically appraised through a human rights lens in order to gauge whether political parties are meeting their human rights obligations.

The Commission will use this Town Hall Debate to solicit diverse opinions and views on the issues of elections and human rights in a bid to strengthen and support democracy. Members of the media are invited to attend and report about the proceedings of the debate.

The Town Hall Debate will take place as follows:
