The SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) will investigate the numerous allegations of corporal punishment made against Paarl Boys' High School, the Western Cape Department of Education (WCED) said on Monday.
"Given the number of allegations that have been made and the fact that parents are not allowing their children to testify, the MEC (Debbie Schäfer) has requested the assistance of the [SAHRC] to investigate, and they have agreed," said Schäfer's spokesperson, Jessica Shelver.

The International Conference of Information Commissioners will start on Sunday.
Information regulators from around the globe are set to meet in Johannesburg from the 10-13 March 2019 at the Vodacom Commercial Park for the International Conference of Information Commissioners (the ICIC2019).
The conference is an international gathering of Information Commissioners from more than 25 countries and representing all continents, who will gather to discuss the right of access to information (RTI).

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) says issues relating to human rights violations at schools is of great concern.

This, as the commission’s Free State Manager, Thabang Kheswa, has confirmed that they are also investigating a number of cases relating to racism in schools.

Overcrowding crisis in Cape Town schools

CAPE TOWN - Teachers at some Cape Town schools have to deal with more than 100 pupils each day.

The Western Cape Education Department says processes are in place to deal with troubles facing Cape Town schools.
Some children have not been taught this year because of staff shortages.

During a surprise visit, the South African Human Rights Commission discovered that children don’t have a school building of their own and teachers are forced to educate 100 of them at a time in Mfuleni.  Human Rights Commissioners had to step in following calls from disgruntled parents over the quality of education their children are receiving. Media Watchdog, Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) has called on the South African  Human Rights Commission to investigate any instances of hate speech against veteran journalist, Karima Brown, amid a social media onslaught against her.
Brown accidentally posted an editorial note on the Economic Freedom Fighters’ Whatsapp group directing colleagues to monitor the party’s event in Gauteng’s East Rand.
