The South African Human Rights Commission’s (SAHRC) Free State Provincial Office will conduct a training for Human Rights Champions / Community Advice Offices in the Province. The purpose of the workshop is to empower Human Rights Champions on the role they play in supporting the mandate of the SAHRC, protecting the rights of communities and related legislations.

A Pietermaritzburg residents and ratepayers body has approached the South African Human Rights Association (SAHRC) over Msunduzi’s ongoing billing issues.

According to the letter of complaint from the Msunduzi Association of Residents Ratepayers and Civics (Marcc), the municipality has allegedly violated the Municipal Systems Act 32 of 2000 in respect of illegal disconnection of water and electricity of local residents.

According to the outgoing South African Human Rights Commission CEO Tseliso Thipanyane, poor governance has plagued the country and become one of its biggest human rights atrocities but the question, here, is if that is our only problem. Is poor governance the only one to blame, or are we, as people in the country, just as to blame.

The city of Tshwane is investigating water quality concerns in Bronkhorstspruit, east of Pretoria following complaints.

The city says it has immediately sent our water and sanitation teams to check the system and conduct tests on the quality of water.
