Re: Media Alert
On 25 and 26 August 2015, the South African Human Rights Commission (‘the Commission’) will host public outreach clinics at the Orange Farm Multipurpose Centre.
The clinics are designed to promote human rights awareness amongst the community and to increase the prospects of individual and community driven rights’ assertion. The clinics will familiarise participants about basic rights and provide community members advice.
The Commission, together with other Constitutional institutions, will engage with the community members and local organisations to raise awareness through short representations about their respective mandates, complaints handling processes, provide legal advice, and register human rights violation complaints.
The Commission has invited the following institutions amongst others to participate, the Public Protector, the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights Cultural, Religious, and Linguistic Communities; the Commission for Gender Equality; the Independent Electoral Commission; Pan South African Language Board; and Public Service Commission, Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, Legal Aid South Africa, and Gauteng Provincial Department, Government Communication and Information System (GCIS).
