Media Invite: SAHRC hosts its 12th annual National Information Officers Forum (NIOF) conference

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) invites members of the media to its 12th annual National Information Officers Forum (NIOF) conference that will be hosted on the 28th September 2015 at the Blades Hotel in Kameeldrift, Pretoria.

The conference is convened to celebrate the international “Right to Know Day” which is on the 28th day of September of each year.
The aim is to bring together Deputy Information Officers (DIOS) in the public sector, civil society actors and various stakeholders, to discuss issues relating to the implementation of access to information, challenges faced by DIOs when implementing the Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2 of 2000 (PAIA).
The conference will comprise of two sessions:

The first session will be with Director Generals of National Departments focusing on developing a management strategy for compliance with the Promotion of Access to Information Act.
Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Mr Pravin Gordhan will deliver a keynote address during this session.

The second session is reserved for implementers who are responsible for the daily administration of PAIA, ensuring compliance with the legislation and responding to requests for information.

The conference will later culminate into the Golden Key Awards Ceremony (GKA) which will award DIOs who have made significant contributions within their respective institutions in promoting and implementing PAIA.

SAHRC Deputy Chairperson Dr Pregs Govender will be leading the proceedings of the conference supported by delegates who will be in attendance including the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Mr Pravin Gordhan, Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mr John Jeffrey, Deputy Minister of Monitoring and Evaluation Mr Buti Manamela, National Director Generals and other external stakeholders.

Members of the Media are invited to attend and report the proceedings of the conference.
