SAHRC extends Basic Education Charter submission Deadline
07 August 2012
ATTENTION: Editors and Reporters
The South African Human Rights Commission is looking at extending the deadline for submissions on the Charter of Basic Education Rights for Children in South Africa.
The Charter sets out obligations and indicators regarding the nature and description of the indicators for monitoring the fulfillment of the right to basic education. The South African Constitution recognises the right of everyone to “basic education, including adult basic education.”
The deadline for submissions was initially set for 28th July 2012.
But due to an overwhelming interest expressed by the Stakeholders and Academic Institutions, the Commission saw the need to extend the deadline by a week.
The new deadline for submissions is on Monday 13th August 2012.
Basic education enjoys recognition as both a fundamental human right and a development priority in terms of international, regional and national legal instruments and development frameworks.
The Commission appreciates all the inputs it has received already from individuals and different organizations.
