In executing its constitutional and legislative mandate, the South African Human Rights Commission (the Commission) constantly aims to create informal partnerships with community-based organisations and structures in various localities to act as the Commission’s primary point of entry in various communities where the Commission is not present. Several factors work in favour of these organisations as they are based in the areas where people live, speak the same language and are known and trusted by the community; have the best information about local conditions and know the history and needs of the communities and are keen to contribute to the work of the Commission.
The workshop is scheduled to take place as follows:
Date : Wednesday, 23 August 2023
Time : 09:00 AM to 13:00 PM
Venue : Broadwater River Estate, Douglas
The key objectives of the workshops are:
- to build knowledge and understanding of human rights.
- to empower individuals and communities to assert their rights.
- to inspire and motivate individuals and communities to take action.
- to build capacity for individuals and communities to promote and protect human rights;
- to equip individuals and organisations with knowledge, skills and resources needed to drive positive change and create lasting impact.
- to create a new generation of leaders who are passionate, knowledgeable, and committed to creating a more just and equitable society.
It is envisaged that these organisations will, in turn, empower marginalised communities and vulnerable people to access and realise their human rights and to deepen an understanding of human rights, as over the period of time, levels of awareness increase through multiplier effect.
