MEDIA RELEASE: SAHRC in Limpopo conducts a Stakeholder Engagement on Strengthening Institutional Collaboration in Promoting Human Rights and Social Cohesion in Limpopo Province

Date: 27 February 2023

Attention: Editors and Reporters

The South African Human Rights Commission (Commission) is a Constitutional body, established to support constitutional democracy in terms of Section 181 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 (Constitution). Section 184(1) (b) of the Constitution obliges the Commission to promote the protection of human rights and monitor and assess the observance of human rights in the Republic of South Africa.

The Republic of South Africa Commemorates Human Rights in the month of March annually, thus the SAHRC finds it crucial to engage institutions supporting democracy. The main objective is to deliberate on the impact of collaboration in promoting the culture of human rights and social cohesion in the Limpopo Province.

The SAHRC has observed violation of human rights therefore, the engagement will further focus on the understanding of Social Harmony National Effort – SHiNE for better social relationships and strengthening realisation of human rights.

Additionally, the Commission aims to popularize its Social Harmony National Effort (SHiNE) initiative. The aim of SHiNE is to commit every South African to reflecting on and acting in small but important ways to develop respect and harmony in their homes and communities.

The Stakeholder engagement  will be conducted as follows:
