Responding to the complaints, the SAHRC through its KZN provincial office (KZNPO) said it has been monitoring what's happening with a view to protecting the rights of flood victims.
The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) said it is monitoring what’s happening to the April flood victims in KwaZulu-Natal to protect their rights.
This comes after the DA staged a protest outside the SAHRC’s Durban offices on Monday morning, to bring attention to the plight of the thousands of KwaZulu-Natal residents who were left homeless, saying the SAHRC has turned a blind eye to the inhumane conditions under which the victims of the April floods live.

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) today confirmed that they had interactions with both national and certain provincial structures from KwaZulu- Natal and Gauteng of the Democratic Alliance (DA).
The SAHRC said the party lodged a complaint on October 31 with the Gauteng provincial office of the SAHRC, complaining of the lack of access to water for residents in the Gauteng province.

The Economic Freedom Fighters and the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) will probably head to the equality court after the EFF called for a neutral body to consider allegations of hate speech and incitement of violence against its leader, Julius Malema.
This week, the commission said recent statements by Malema and on EFF banners “constitute incitement of violence, hate speech and possibly other transgressions of the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act, 4 of 2000”.

The SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has confirmed that it has received complaints against Unisa for alleged human rights violations that are said to be happening at this institution.
The Star was recently made to understand that, on top of a series of administrative problems, Unisa is also beset by allegations of human rights violations, which include the bullying of senior and junior staff by members of the executive.

Schools and teachers from Lansdowne, Mitchell’s Plain and surrounding areas recently attended the launch of the Social Harmony National Effort (SHiNE) project of the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) at the Al Ihklaas Academia Library in Lansdowne.
The project is in line with the SAHRC’s mandate to promote respect for human rights in the country.

Pretoria - South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) chairperson Chris Nissen has called on national police commissioner Lieutenant-General Fannie Masemola to take drastic action against police officers who abuse members of the public.
Nissen was responding to the startling Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) report that revealed that thousands of police officers had been investigated for numerous human rights violations.
In its annual report, Ipid disclosed that it investigated more than 5 000 crimes that were committed by police officers.

Cape Town – The conduct of law enforcement authorities during evictions of land occupiers and their interactions with homeless people in the Western Cape will come under scrutiny when the South African African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) holds its hearings on Tuesday.
This will be the second sitting, the first having been held in April.
The SAHRC said it had “noted a systemic issue in the manner in which the South African Police Service (SAPS), City of Cape Town law enforcement and private security companies conduct themselves during evictions of unlawful occupiers and interactions with homeless persons in the Western Cape”.

Cape Town - Controversial Black First Land First member Lindsay Maasdorp has finally issued an apology for comments he made following the death of white learners when a bridge collapsed at Driehoek Hoerskool in Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng.
This came after labour union Solidarity lodged a complaint of hate speech at the Equality Court in Gauteng against the Black First Land First group, and specifically members Lindsay Maasdorp and Zwelakhe Dubasi, for comments they made following the death of four pupils when the school walkway bridge collapsed on February 1, 2019.

Former Black First Land First (BLF) spokesperson Lindsay Maasdorp has apologised for utterances he made after the Hoërskool Driehoek tragedy which claimed the lives of four pupils in 2019.
His apology comes six months after the equality court ordered him and former BLF deputy secretary-general Zwelakhe Dubasi to apologise for comments they made on social media about white children who died when a bridge collapsed at the Vanderbijlpark school. Dubasi apologised earlier.

The South African Human Rights Commission on Tuesday launched an initiative called the Social Harmony National Effort at the Freedom Park Heritage Museum in Tshwane.

The University of Johannesburg’s School of Communications says stricter regulations must be put in place in the advertising industry, to ensure that racial discrimination is avoided. The university has been making submissions at the South African Human Rights Commission’s inquiry into racial discrimination in the advertising industry. The Commission’s Gauteng provincial office is leading the inquiry which is aimed at addressing the publication of adverts that carry racial undertones in South Africa.
