The South African Human Rights Commission Gauteng Provincial Office (Commission) confirms that it has received several complaints relating to unplaced learners in Gauteng. Unplaced learners are learners who should be accessing schools including LSEN schools and centres but have not been allocated a school to date.

The South African Human Rights Commission's (SAHRC) Eastern Cape Provincial Office (ECPO) is embarking on a crucial mission: monitoring children’s rights, police stations and the school uniform report recommendations at schools in Joe Gqabi District Municipality. Section 184 (1) (c) of the Constitution empowers the SAHRC to monitor and assess the observance of human rights throughout the country. This includes inspecting areas of potential violation and seeking redress where necessary.

On the 11th of March 2024, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) Limpopo Provincial Office is set to meet with Mr Ben Vorster and Dr Anneri Vorster, parents of a minor who was allegedly seen on social media uttering a racial slur towards Sonwabile, on an online platform. The meeting is part of the ongoing investigation into the complaints that were received from several individuals regarding the utterance which sparked racial tensions across social media platforms in South Africa.

Former prisoner sues ministry of justice for R4m as correctional services confirms probe into two assault claims at East London jail ZIYANDA ZWENI and SITHANDIWE VELAPHI The correctional services department has confirmed two assault cases are under investigation as allegations of abuse emerged from the women's prison in East London at the weekend, with one woman filing a multimillionrand civil claim. Serving and former female inmates at the Correctional Centre in West Bank have made damning allegations against some prisonwarders, accusing them of physical abuse and other criminal acts. A former warder at the facility has given credence to some allegations including that inmates were beaten with batons and fists saying this was a commonplace occurrence.

The SA Human Rights Commission's Eastern Cape office has been inundated with complaints about a lack of basic rights, such as access to clean water, road infrastructure, health, food, dignity and education. The Buffalo City and Nelson Mandela Bay metros lead the charge in bringing submissions to the commission. Complaints include violations of sections 27, 10 and 29 of the Bill of Rights. Section 27 deals with the right of access to healthcare services, including reproductive healthcare, sufficient food and water and social security.

The Eastern Cape Human Rights Commission has been forced to subpoena officials from the OR Tambo district municipality and Transnet to an inquiry into the state of the province's roads, after Transnet and municipal officials were noshows at a hearing in November. The representatives were forced to appear before the commission in East London on Monday. The inquiry was prompted by a surge in complaints about Eastern Cape roads, which complainants said were significantly hindering access to their fundamental rights.

The South African Human Rights Commission SAHRC has promised not to give up on finding a solution to the eThekwini water crisis until all areas have running water. The SAHRC said this after receiving a memorandum from the Democratic Alliance DA KZN provincial leader Francois Rodgers during a picket at the SAHRC Durban offices yesterday. The party said it is concerned over the SAHRC's "nonresponse" to issues affecting eThekwini residents. Since the floods in 2022, the water situation in the eThekwini Municipality, particularly in the North of Durban encompassing Phoenix, Tongaat, Durban North, Greenwood Park, Glenashley, Virginia, Sunningdale and Umhlanga has become progressively worse. According to the memorandum the residents of Bester have been without water for 14 years.
