The South African Human Rights Commission (the SAHRC) says it has on numerous occasions, urged political leaders to recognise and take responsibility for the power they wield through their words and say they are deeply concerned by recent alleged utterances attributed to Provincial Leader of the Freedom Front Plus, Marcelle Maritz, Polokwane Review reports.

Enver Wilsnach, one of two people who alleged they were assaulted and racially abused by Springbok Eben Etzebeth, told News24 on Thursday he is disappointed in the rugby star.

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has decided to take Limpopo FF Plus leader Marcelle Maritz to the Equality Court for allegedly using the k-word in an incident captured on video. Provincial SAHRC manager Victor Mavhidula said on Thursday that the use of the conduct, on a prima facie basis, amounted to hate speech and was deeply concerning.
