SAHRC Taking Edgemead High to Court
The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) will assist Nosipho Mkize, a learner at Edgemead High School, to launch an application at the Equality Court tomorrow. A white parent, Shannon Ferreira and her daughter Nameer allegedly assaulted Mkize early last month.
Mkize alleges that Shannon Ferreira, her boyfriend Byron Shaw and Ferreira’s daughter Nameer, assaulted her on the 6th of November this year. She also alleges that Nameer’s mother used racist remarks against her while the assault took place. The SAHRC and Mkize argue that she was unfairly discriminated against on the ground of race.
The matter will be heard in the Magistrate’s Court in Blue Downs, Kuils Rivier.
