In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the SA Human Rights Commission in collaboration with the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, will host the Annual Human Rights Lecture and a Roundtable Discussion. This event which is titled “Towards Dignity and Justice, is scheduled to take place on Monday, December 10th from 10:00 until 12:30.

The Lecture and Roundtable, to be facilitated by Mr Achmat Dangor, the NMF CEO, will reflect on how South Africans have progressed in translating into reality the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the country’s Constitution.  It will also bring together a variety of key stakeholders, who it is hoped will share, insights and ideas to inform programmes on translating the Universal Declaration and the Constitution into living documents.

Commissioner Bahame Tom Nyanguka, attached to the African Commission on Human and People's Rights and the African Union's Special Rapporteur for Refugees, Asylum Seekers, Internally Displaced Persons and Migration in Africa, will give the lecture.

The event will take place at the South African Human Rights Commission, Human Rights House, Cnr, St Andrews and York Streets, Parktown, Johannesburg.
